Head and neck cancer can be a particularly difficult diagnosis to live with because so many of our essential functions depend on this region of our body: eating, breathing, speaking, expressing ourselves, et. cetera. Surgery and radiation in this area can lead to scar tissue, radiation fibrosis, muscle stiffness, and pain. Additionally, this area is vulnerable to swelling which may lead to lymphedema. All of these conditions can be effectively treated by Physical and Speech Therapists trained in cancer rehabilitation.
