Fields: First Steps
Melissa Smith’s background is in education. She taught high school math and science with licensure in secondary Language Arts. She found herself in Taos by way of Carson, Santa Fe, and western Massachusetts. Taos is now home, where she learns daily from her two beautiful children who effortlessly present all the lessons she needs. In her free time she is studying West African drumming, and Qigong.
Experiencing pregnancy and birth created a desire to be with other parents who were going through, or had been through, the same process. She feels that becoming a parent is such a rich and sometimes challenging process, and support with that process is a gift, whether it is to share in the struggles or to share in the joy and triumphs. She has lived off-grid raising her children, and has experienced first-hand the unique situations that arise. Then Melissa was initiated into the world of home visiting, a path she has been on for 4 years. She is a certified Circle of Security facilitator, Infant Massage instructor, Level 2 FAN participant, and Birth Art facilitator, life student of Emotional Intelligence, and seeker of meaningful questions.
