Prepared Childbirth Class
The Labor and Delivery department at Holy Cross Hospital is excited to offer a prepared childbirth class for expectant parents. The evidence-based comprehensive childbirth curriculum is intended to prepare birthing persons and their support for all the twists and turns that pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period have. Sessions are four classes on Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm each over a four week period. Classes are in-person and taught by one of the experienced Labor and Delivery nurses at the LEA building at Holy Cross Hospital.
Classes will be held Monday nights 5:30-7:30 pm at the LEA building @ Holy Cross Hospital Campus. Space is limited to 12 people or 6 groups of two and you need to pre-register.
The class will cover topics including but not limited to:
- Warning signs of pregnancy
- False labor, True labor, Preterm labor and when to go to the hospital
- What happens when you get to the hospital and what to bring
- Labor Process and Stages of Labor with coping mechanisms for each stage
- Physiologic birth
- Birth plan discussion
- Pain management options in hospital both unmedicated and medicated options
- Positioning and breathing practice
- Protecting the pelvic floor breathing during pushing and recovery
- What a delivery looks like and what to expect
- Cesarean delivery
- What to expect in the postpartum period
- Infant care basics and demonstrations with practice
- Breathing to protect the pelvic floor during pushing and recovery
- Breastfeeding
- Bottle feeding
- Ends in Labor and Delivery Unit tour
- Connections with other parents
- Community resources
- Resource booklet to have: Understanding Birth from Injoy with online access code to web app.

For each session, classes will be held Monday nights 5:30-7:30pm:

The LEA building is between TCCY office and the Main HCMC hospital. Enter the first hospital drive to the North (same as TCCY) and park in the first lot on the Right. Walk back towards the mountain and you will see a doorway next to the ambulance bay, this door is locked but someone will be there to let you in each week.
