Circle of Care for Families
Pregnancy, birth, postpartum support, parenting and child development
Families do not always know where to start, especially during pregnancy, after birth or while navigating the needs of a growing child. Holy Cross Medical Center’s Circle of Care helps connect families with the people, programs and resources that can support them along the way.
The Circle of Care brings together Labor and Delivery, First Steps Home Visiting, Taos Loves Kids, Lactation Support through ROAMS and Care Coordination through ROAMS. Families may enter through any of these services, and care coordination can help connect them to the next right support.

Not sure where to start?
The care coordinator can help families understand available hospital-based, community-based and contracted resources.

How the Circle of Care works
A family might first connect with support through a prenatal appointment, a childbirth class, Labor and Delivery, a home visitor, a parenting group, lactation support or a pediatric visit. From there, staff and community partners can help families identify what might be helpful next.
The goal is to make support easier to find, especially during major transitions like pregnancy, childbirth, the first weeks at home with a newborn, parenting stress, child development concerns, behavioral health needs or complex medical referrals.

“I love that our work in home visiting is tailored specifically to each family’s questions, concerns and what they would like support in as a family. We are not a cookie-cutter program.”
– Jaci Imberger, MS, First Steps Program Manager
Taos Loves Kids
Taos Loves Kids provides free parenting classes and groups in English and Spanish for families from the prenatal period through age 18.
The program offers practical guidance, encouragement and connection for parents and caregivers. Classes are currently available over Zoom and are led by facilitators who understand the Taos community.
Lactation Support through ROAMS
Lactation Support through ROAMS helps eligible families with breastfeeding and feeding questions, including latching, milk supply, pumping, feeding plans, pain, infant weight concerns and follow-up support.
Through Holy Cross Medical Center’s ROAMS program, Jana Bailey, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, provides contracted lactation support for eligible families. The service is available to pregnant women and new mothers ages 15 to 44 in Taos, Colfax, Mora, Union and Harding counties who do not otherwise have access to lactation support through insurance.
Services may be available through Labor and Delivery before or after birth, virtual visits or office visits when appropriate. To find out if you qualify for lactation support through ROAMS, contact the care coordinator.
