Carol is an advanced registered nurse practitioner who started her nursing career in Miami, Florida where she attended nursing school at Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked in the county hospital pediatric and adult emergency room, and later in the cardiac cath lab, and cardiothoracic surgical intensive care unit caring for patients after cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass graft [CABG] surgery and heart and lung transplants. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and later completed an international PhD in cardiovascular sciences from the University of Verona, Italy. After 8 years as a cardiothoracic surgery nurse practitioner at Jackson Memorial Hospital /University of Miami hospital, she has practiced as a cardiology nurse practitioner for over 20 years, including care of patients with arrhythmias, syncope, pacemakers and defibrillators, and heart failure.
