Holy Cross Medical Center is announcing a transition in its Cardiology program. Dr. Tiziano Scarabelli and Carol Chen-Scarabelli are no longer with Holy Cross, and we wish them well in their future endeavors.
Most importantly for our patients: the Holy Cross Cardiology Clinic remains open and continues to provide cardiology services. Experienced visiting cardiologists are supporting patient care during this transition, and our team is working to keep scheduled appointments and procedures on track. If an appointment does need to be rescheduled, a member of our team will contact you directly.
Actively Recruiting — and Growing
Holy Cross is actively recruiting to expand the cardiology program, with plans to hire two cardiologists and one advanced practice provider (APP). Our team has interviewed three cardiologist candidates over the past month, with an additional interview scheduled later this month, and we intend to move quickly with offers as we identify the right candidates for our community.
Our long-term strategy is not simply to maintain cardiology services in Taos, it is to grow and enhance them. Expanding provider capacity will help reduce appointment wait times, improve access for medication refills, and ensure more timely surgical clearances for our patients.
Expanded Cardiac Diagnostics and Imaging
Holy Cross also plans to expand the cardiac diagnostic and imaging services available locally, including increased access to stress testing, echocardiography, coronary CT angiography (CCTA), fractional flow reserve (FFR), and plaque analysis studies. Following the installation of our new MRI later this year, we plan to introduce cardiac MRI services right here in our community.
State-of-the-Art CT Imaging, Right Here in Taos
Supporting these expanded services are two state-of-the-art CT scanners at Holy Cross. Computed Tomography has revolutionized diagnostic medicine, and our Philips Incisive CT scanner helps physicians see what’s really going on inside the body with remarkable clarity.
Joining it is our recently installed GE Revolution Vibe CT scanner — the first of its kind installed in a radiology department and the first in our region. Both machines offer incredible accuracy for cardiac-based scans, and both integrate with the newest AI-powered diagnostic tools to enhance the images our cardiologists review. Together, they give patients in Taos access to advanced cardiac imaging that many communities our size simply does not have.
Our goal is to build a strong, sustainable cardiology program that provides high-quality cardiovascular care close to home for Taos and the entire region we serve.
